Review:
I had expectations for this book that met with a few disappointments. The plot was more loose than it's predecessor and I was drawn more to the secondary characters, than the main at times. I'd read the issues between Ulrika and Trance, then it'd switch and whisk me into a secondary point of view and another event entirely. I enjoyed the different POV's through the characters eyes, but by the time it came back to the leads I wanted more intel. on the secondary ones. Above all I'd say this was a book to wrap up all the loose endings of relationships left from the book before.
The characters as always captured my imagination. They tugged at my heart strings, made me sympathize with them and covered all emotions any human would go through. Their reactions made me scowl, grin, want to rattle them and hug them. Sydney Croft has a talent for creating realistic characters in a complex world.
The cover speaks of romance, passion, fire. There's a dose of each, but not an inferno like I expected.
The writing style is summed up in two words for me: detailed with an edge of simplistic with a variety of long sentences vs. shorter. It complements the world their characters live in and binds well with the interaction between characters.
Overall it was a book that I had enjoyed, but wouldn't re-read if it wasn't a part of a series.
